Baseball Recap: De La Salle Collegiate's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

De La Salle Collegiate had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Divine Child Falcons. That's more bragging rights for the Pilots, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

JJ Weimert looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Dane Debbrecht was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Vito Zito was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

De La Salle Collegiate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

De La Salle Collegiate's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5. As for Divine Child, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. De La Salle Collegiate will head out to face off against Detroit Country Day at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Divine Child, they will venture away from home to square off against Cardinal Mooney Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 2.9, the Cardinals 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
