Basketball Recap: Waukegan Takes a Loss

Waukegan suffered their biggest loss since January 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by the Libertyville Wildcats and fell 65-23. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 24th).

Despite the defeat, Waukegan saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alliaya Cade posted 12 points and five steals. Cade is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Waukegan and nudges their season record down to 8-5. As for Libertyville, their victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waukegan will challenge Mundelein at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Libertyville, they will take on Zion-Benton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Libertyville is facing Zion-Benton at the right time seeing as Zion-Benton is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
