Baseball Recap: Highland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Highland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past the Socorro Warriors 4-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Eric Tennison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-0-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Mangum, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Davi Shima was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Highland's victory bumped their record up to 3-7-1. As for Socorro, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Highland will square off against Belen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Socorro, they will welcome Hot Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hot Springs has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.86 runs per game on average), something Socorro will no doubt try to take advantage of.
