Basketball Recap: Wootton Falls Despite Big Games from Malia Bellamy and Maya Bellamy

Wootton suffered their biggest loss since December 20, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against the Churchill Bulldogs, falling 63-39. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-26 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Wootton had strong showings from Maya Bellamy, who posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Malia Bellamy, who earned 11 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Naima Cho-Khaliq, who had three points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wootton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Wootton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Churchill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.

Wootton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-50 loss against Walter Johnson on the 7th. Churchill has also already played their next matchup (against Whitman), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
