Football Recap: Silver Creek Dragons vs. Salem Lions
Silver Creek won against Charlestown last Friday with 41 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Silver Creek Dragons breezed by the Salem Lions at home to the tune of 41-8. The Dragons pushed the score to 28-8 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions had little chance of recovering from.
Silver Creek had a senior duo take command as Kedon Ward threw for 181 yards and a touchdown while completing 88.9% of his passes and Jamari Powell rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Samuel Conn was another key player, rushing for 52 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Silver Creek wouldn't let Salem keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Lukas Ramirez, Jackson Terry, and Adrin Montes picked up one apiece. Montes also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack, forcing a fumble, and making four total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Despite the defeat, Salem saw an underclassman step up: Logan Dent rushed for 179 yards while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards.
The win made it two in a row for Silver Creek and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Silver Creek will host Floyd Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Salem, they will take on Scottsburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Salem focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday.
