Softball Recap: Liberty Charter Victorious

Liberty Charter extended their postseason success on Friday against Maranatha Christian. They skirted past the Eagles 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Layla Montgomery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leah Donahue, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Summer Svendsen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Liberty Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maranatha Christian struck out nine times.

Liberty Charter's win bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Maranatha Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-6.

Coming up, Liberty Charter will challenge Central at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.15 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. Maranatha Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
