Football Recap: Cuthbertson Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Mason Iovino and Austin Davis

The matchup between Cuthbertson and Porter Ridge on Friday hardly resembled the 15-12 effort from their previous meeting. The Cavaliers came up short against the Pirates, falling 42-17. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Despite the defeat, Cuthbertson had strong showings from Austin Davis, who threw for 183 yards and one TD while completing 72.2% of his passes, and Mason Iovino, who gained 159 total yards. Iovino is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 110 every time he's taken the field this season.

A big part of Porter Ridge's victory came down to the chemistry between Keenan Sullivan and his top target Rai'Shawn Elmore. Sullivan rushed for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Elmore gained 140 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Sullivan a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Christian Myers was in the mix too, providing Porter Ridge with two scores.

Cuthbertson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Porter Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Cuthbertson has already played their next contest, a 23-8 victory against Piedmont on the 26th. As for Porter Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-13 loss against Charlotte Catholic on the 26th.
