Baseball Recap: New Lothrop Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

New Lothrop came into Saturday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Montrose Rams by a score of 8-4 on Saturday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 17-0 win back in April.

Connor Masterson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of New Lothrop's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 12-17 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Wendling, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. New Lothrop is undefeated when Wendling posts two or more runs, but 10-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Rumisek, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

New Lothrop's record now sits at 15-17. As for Montrose, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

New Lothrop has already played their next match, a 7-2 defeat against Ovid-Elsie on the 31st. Montrose does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
