Basketball Recap: West Columbus Vikings vs. Pender Patriots
West Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Pender Patriots, falling 64-41. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pender to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Howell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Howell a new career-high in steals (three). Another player making a difference was Jordan Hansley, who posted 18 points and three steals.
West Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Pender, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Columbus has already played their next match (against East Columbus), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pender will square off against Heide Trask at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Heide Trask's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
