The Orono Riots will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the George Stevens Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Orono is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 23 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Bucksport on Friday. They lost 11-1 to the Golden Bucks. The loss put an end to the Riots' undefeated start to the season.
Orono saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Pardilla, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, George Stevens Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 13-10 to Calais. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Emily Young made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marnie Gleason, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
George Stevens Academy now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Orono, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Orono has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .570. However, it's not like George Stevens Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .573. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
