Recap: Williston Red Devils vs. Trenton Tigers
After flying high against the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs last Saturday, the Williston Red Devils came back down to earth. Williston fell just short of Trenton by a score of 48-46. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Williston in their matchups with Trenton: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Williston saw an underclassman step up: Kaelynn Brown scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Janiyah Span was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Williston smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trenton only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trenton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Koi Perry, who dropped a double-double on 13 rebounds and ten assists. That's the first time this season that Perry pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyima Gillyard, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Williston's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-8. As for Trenton, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Williston will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Union County at 7:00 p.m. Union County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Trenton, they will head out on the road to face off against Hope Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hope Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Trenton is ranked 108th).
