Baseball Recap: St. Ignatius College Preparatory's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

St. Ignatius College Preparatory hadn't done well against Archbishop Mitty recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wildcats walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Monarchs. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won six games in a row.

Eddie McCartney and Spencer Guido dominated on the mound. McCartney tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Guido pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. McCartney has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Archer Horn, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ryan Rosenthal, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory pushed their record up to 8-2-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Mitty, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.

Looking ahead, St. Ignatius College Preparatory will head out to square off against Junipero Serra at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Padres' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Archbishop Mitty, they will be playing at home against Valley Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Monarchs 4.1, the Warriors 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
