Preview: Drexel/Miami vs. Appleton City Bulldogs

After each having a week off, The Drexel/Miami and the Appleton City Bulldogs will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. One thing working in Drexel/Miami's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.

Drexel/Miami pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Paul Lutheran. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (52), Drexel/Miami still had to take the loss.

Drexel/Miami's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kolbi Nichols, who picked up 271 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and Aj Gunnels who threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns. Ethan Dayringer also helped out as he racked up 113 receiving yards.

Even if they lost, Drexel/Miami's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: St. Paul Lutheran's QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. St. Paul Lutheran's QB won't forget Cole Kimbrough anytime soon given Kimbrough sacked him four times.

Meanwhile, Appleton City put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Jasper, posting a 56-8 victory on the road. Given Appleton City's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Jasper is ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Appleton City found their leader in underclassman Cash Anderson, who rushed for 249 yards and six touchdowns on only nine carries. Garrett Davis made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

St. Paul Lutheran's win bumped their season record to 6-4 while Drexel/Miami's loss dropped theirs to 6-3.

Drexel/Miami might still be hurting after the 72-52 loss they got from Appleton City in their previous meeting back in September. Can Drexel/Miami avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
