Football Recap: Velma Jackson Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Demontre Strange and Trevon Willis

If Velma Jackson was feeling good fresh off their 51-0 takedown of Leake County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Falcons took a 52-35 bruising from the Leake Central Gators on Friday. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gators apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, Velma Jackson had strong showings from Trevon Willis, who rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and Demontre Strange, who rushed for 85 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. Willis also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making six total tackles and defending one pass.

Javario Daley was his usual excellent self, rushing for 217 yards and two scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry for Leake Central. Another player making a difference was Israel Ross, who rushed for 91 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries.

Velma Jackson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Leake Central, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

Velma Jackson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 24-20 win against Eupora on the 3rd. As for Leake Central, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-27 victory against Choctaw Central on the 3rd.
