Basketball Recap: Mentor's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

Mentor lost against Strongsville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mentor Cardinals lost 76-53 to the Strongsville Mustangs. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Mentor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tony Katava, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Kennedy, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

The defeat snapped Mentor's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 11-5 record. As for Strongsville, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 14-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Mentor Cardinals duke it out with the Cleveland Heights Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mentor is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 79.9 points per game this season. As for Strongsville, they will take on Glenville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Glenville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
