Basketball Recap: Morro Bay Pirates vs. Santa Ynez Pirates
Morro Bay lost against Santa Ynez back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Morro Bay Pirates were dealt a 77-30 defeat at the hands of the Santa Ynez Pirates. While losing is never fun, Morro Bay can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1137th, while Santa Ynez is ranked 453rd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Santa Ynez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lucas Ollenburger, who posted 13 points and seven boards. Ollenburger is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Luke Gianis was another key player, going 5 for 7 en route to 14 points.
Morro Bay has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Santa Ynez, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Looking ahead, Morro Bay is taking a road trip to challenge Righetti at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
