Tori Detro made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mack Mason was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Delaney Seaborne also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
North Putnam kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cloverdale only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Crawfordsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They came up short against Western Boone, falling 16-1.
Crawfordsville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sabella Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
North Putnam's record is now 8-5. As for Crawfordsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.
Crawfordsville's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. North Putnam has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Crawfordsville, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will North Putnam keep running through batters, or will the Athenians buck the trend?
Everything went North Putnam's way against Crawfordsville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as North Putnam made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
