Basketball Recap: Culpeper County Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Culpeper County couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 57-47 to the Brentsville District Tigers on Tuesday. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Despite the loss, Culpeper County still got an impressive performance from AmyAh Robinson, who shot 43% from the field en route to 20 points and five rebounds. Robinson's evening made it 42 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Kelley Hutcherson was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Culpeper County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 19 consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brentsville District to victory, but perhaps none more so than Macie Mayes, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Mayes a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brooke Lynn Miller, who posted 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Culpeper County's loss dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Brentsville District, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Culpeper County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brentsville District, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-34 defeat against James Monroe on the 27th.
