Baseball Recap: Rich Township Sets Scoring Season-High Against Thornridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rich Township). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Thornridge Falcons an 18-0 shutout on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Rich Township got a great performance from Maurice Pinkney as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Pinkney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brandon Bankhead, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Gio Rivera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Rich Township kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Rich Township's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Thornridge, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Looking ahead, Rich Township will venture away from home to challenge Morgan Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last five games the Mustangs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Thornridge will be paying especially close attention to Rich Township's contest: after Rich Township faces off against Morgan Park, they'll take on Thornridge again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
