Basketball Recap: Heartland Huskies vs. Sutton Mustangs
The Heartland Huskies lost against the Sutton Mustangs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Heartland had to suffer through a rough 51-21 loss at the hands of the Mustangs. Heartland has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the loss, Heartland had strong showings from Emerysn Oswald, who scored eight points, and Allie Boehr, who scored three points along with three blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Heartland struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Heartland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Sutton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.
Heartland and the Cougars will face off at 11:00 a.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sandy Creek is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Sutton, they will take on the Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Thayer Central is ranked 94th, while the Mustangs are ranked 78th).
