Draughn came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Avery County, but Oak Markland wouldn't allow it. The Avery County Vikings took down the Draughn Wildcats 77-62 on Thursday thanks in part to Markland, who went 9-for-15 to rack up 30 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Another player making a difference was Landon Liner, who went 8-for-12 on his way to 21 points and six boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 57% in the last three games he's played.

Avery County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points over those games. As for Draughn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Looking ahead, Avery County will square off against Mitchell at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Avery County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for Draughn, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mountain Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Heritage will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Draughn surely won't give up without a fight.
