Baseball Recap: Middle Creek Comes Up Short

Middle Creek easily dispatched Enloe on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Middle Creek Mustangs fell just short of the Apex Friendship Patriots by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Gabe Murray put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Murray wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Austin Weber, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. John Lupienski was another, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

With the loss, Middle Creek broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Apex Friendship, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.

Coming up, Middle Creek will challenge Holly Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Apex Friendship, they will square off against Green Hope at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
