Softball Recap: Winter Park Comes Up Short

Winter Park fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lake Howell on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Howell Silverhawks. It was the first time this season that the Wildcats let down their fans at home.

Rylie Scanlon spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mikaela Will was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Lindsey Allen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Winter Park and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Lake Howell, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3.

Winter Park and Lake Howell could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Winter Park (ranked 212th) will meet Winter Springs (ranked 27th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Lake Howell will square off against Lake Brantley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 120 places (127 vs. 7).
