Softball Recap: College Place Has No Trouble Against Connell

College Place had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Connell on Tuesday. College Place was the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over Connell. Considering the Hawks have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rio Hayes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Adrienne Berube was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Graycelyn Tonn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

College Place kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

College Place pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Connell, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: College Place beat Connell by a score of 11-0 later that day.
