Baseball Recap: Dudley Beats Eastern Guilford for Their Third Straight Win

Dudley won against Ben L. Smith last Friday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Dudley put the hurt on the Eastern Guilford Wildcats with a sharp 17-5 victory. Considering the Panthers have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brayden Jeffries made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Jeffries was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and one run.

In other batting news, Dudley let Jahsiah Lowe and Jayven Baize run wild. Lowe scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Baize scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Lowe has become a key player for Dudley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Jamaree McCray also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The win (which was Dudley's third in a row) raised their record to 6-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.7 runs over those games. As for Eastern Guilford, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Eastern Guilford will challenge Eastern Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern Alamance's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Eastern Guilford's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Dudley will be paying especially close attention to Eastern Guilford's game: after Eastern Guilford faces off against Eastern Alamance, they'll take on Dudley again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
