Baseball Recap: South Point's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

South Point took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Rock Hill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pointers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Redmen 3-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Pointers as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Caesyn Pope spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South Point is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-10 otherwise.

South Point's victory bumped their record up to 2-11. As for Rock Hill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Point will welcome Portsmouth at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pointers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Rock Hill, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Fairland at 5:30 p.m.
