Recap: Escambia Gators vs. West Florida Jaguars
The Escambia Gators won the last time they faced the West Florida Jaguars, and things went their way on Friday too. Escambia walked away with a 53-44 victory over West Florida.
Escambia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua Jackson led the charge by scoring 17 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tae Gaston, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why West Florida lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominick Nicholson. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. John Anderson was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
Escambia's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for West Florida, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escambia will take on Pine Forest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Maurice Smith and Tayshaun Gilcrist. As for West Florida, they will be playing at home against Pace at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pace is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
