Baseball Game Preview: Taft Wildcats vs. Chavez Titans

For the second straight game, Taft will face off against Chavez. The Wildcats will welcome the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Taft has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Tuesday, Taft came up short against Chavez and fell 11-8.

For Chavez's part, Diego Villarreal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Villarreal a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Villarreal wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Carrillo, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another was Xavier Fuentez, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

The victory (which was Chavez's seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Taft, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-8.
