Basketball Recap: Clay Takes a Loss

Clay lost against Anthony Wayne back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Clay Eagles were dealt a 91-20 loss at the hands of the Anthony Wayne Generals. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while the Generals are ranked fourth).

Despite the loss, Clay still got an impressive performance from Grace Toth, who posted nine points.

Leading Anthony Wayne to victory were Elise Bender and Brooke Bender. Elise almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards, while Brooke went 8 for 9 on her way to 23 points and four steals. The contest was Elise's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Leah Pike was another key player, going 6 of 10 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Clay has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Anthony Wayne, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Maumee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maumee has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 173 points over their last three contests. As for Anthony Wayne, they will challenge Whitmer at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Anthony Wayne's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
