Basketball Recap: Shiprock Takes a Loss

Shiprock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 62-54 to the Miyamura Patriots. The Chieftains were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 43-34.

Despite the loss, Shiprock still got an impressive performance from Deon Harvey, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elishah Tsosie, who scored ten points.

Miyamura was led to victory by Brody Tah and Jordan Cadman. Tah dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Cadman shot 62% from the field to rack up 20 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Tah is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Jaxon Jones was another key player, putting up six points.

Shiprock's defeat dropped their record down to 3-23. As for Miyamura, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-20 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shiprock beat Miyamura by a score of 52-43 on Monday.
