Recap: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Morse Tigers

The Mount Miguel Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. They blew past Morse 75-54. Given Mount Miguel's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Morse is ranked 1049th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mount Miguel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jasen Hughes led the charge by scoring 16 points. Hughes continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Thaddeus Boudreaux, who scored 13 points.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonathan Smith , who scored 20 points. The contest was Smith 's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Jayren Sunico was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.

The victory makes it two in a row for Mount Miguel and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Morse, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Mount Miguel won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Valhalla at 8:00 p.m. on December 19th. Morse's road trip will continue as they head out to face Point Loma at 3:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Point Loma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday.
