Softball Recap: Granada Victorious

Granada owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the Monte Vista Mustangs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Matadors also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Ella Vonbergen tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Delaney Aumua, who fired off three home runs and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Maddie Bittman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Granada lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 7-2 when they post two or more home runs.

Granada is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monte Vista, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-11.

Coming up, Granada will challenge Livermore at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Monte Vista, they will head out to take on San Ramon Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
