Basketball Recap: Southington Skates Past Farmington with Ease

Southington waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 68-28 victory over the Farmington River Hawks. With the Blue Knights ahead 38-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Southington had a senior duo take command as Lily Cooper almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists and Hannah Blanchard went 7 for 13 on her way to 17 points. Blanchard is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Isabella Leggett was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.

Southington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Southington's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Farmington, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Southington won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Woodstock Academy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southington knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Woodstock Academy likes a good challenge. As for Farmington, they will be playing at home against RHAM at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
