Recap: Gustavus Foxes vs. Klawock Chieftains
The Gustavus Foxes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 57-28 defeat at the hands of Klawock. While losing is never fun, Gustavus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Klawock is ranked ninth).
It was another big night for Marley Kness, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds for Klawock. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kness has scored at least a third of Klawock's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Smith, who scored eight points.
Gustavus bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Klawock, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gustavus and Kake will face off on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Klawock will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Angoon at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
