League recap: Burfeind overpowering for Blaine in past week

Northwest Suburban league recap: 5/22/13

Northwest Suburban's top pitcher this week was Blaine's Dustin Burfeind. He won two games and struck out eight batters.

Top honors in the league this week go to Maple Grove, which finished with three wins overall, good for best in the league. The Crimson beat Anoka 3-1, Duluth East 3-0 and Roseau 12-1.

The Bengals boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Blaine scored a league-best 43 runs this week, adding to its league-leading 101 runs on the season.

There were eight hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. Leading the pack was Nick Caldeen, who hit .667 by going 4-for-6.

The Bengals' Burfeind finished with a league-high two wins over the past week. He has tossed his way to five victories this year, putting him first in the league.



Davis Bryan threw a shutout as he led Blaine to victory over Maple Grove, 8-0, on Thursday. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out three, while giving up zero hits.

Zach Rustad drove in five runners on Wednesday in the Bengals' 9-2 victory over Centennial. He went 3-for-5 and scored one run.
