Venice is 8-2 against Fairfax since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Gondoliers will welcome the Lions at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Venice has nine straight wins, Fairfax has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Venice was able to grind out a solid victory over Hamilton, taking the game 5-1.
Monserrath Zapata spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sandy Carrera, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Khalia Rodriguez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Fairfax lost 18-8 to Palisades on Monday.
Yasmin Gonzalez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Keithsy Segura, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Venice pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
Fairfax's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Venice has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Fairfax, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Venice's sizable advantage in that area, the Lions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Venice took their win against Fairfax in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-0 score. Will the Gondoliers repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
