Basketball Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Tyler HEAT

The Overton Mustangs will head out on the road to take on Tyler HEAT at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Overton is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Douglass just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the Indians 46-41.

Jayden Edwards put forth a good effort for the losing side as he posted seven steals and five assists. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played.

Meanwhile, Tyler HEAT came tearing into Saturday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Guardians 59-42. Given Tyler HEAT's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Marshall Christian Academy is ranked 1087th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tyler HEAT's win came from a few key players Overton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Waker Hartman, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Anderson, who put up eight points in addition to nine assists and five steals.

Overton's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-4. As for Tyler HEAT, their victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-2.

Overton might still be hurting after the 47-26 loss they got from Tyler HEAT in their previous matchup back in November of 2018. Can Overton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
