League recap: Washington-Wilkes tops Oglethorpe County to extend winning streak

AA Region 8 recap November 5, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in AA Region 8 this week, Washington-Wilkes beat Oglethorpe County 62-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.

Washington-Wilkes led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on the Patriots.

Riverside Military Academy's dynamic duo of Collin Pettell and Christopher Howard proved tough for Jefferson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Pettell threw for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns and Howard had 109 yards receiving. Avery Cagle helped Riverside Military Academy's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 76 yards.

Charlie Woerner was a passing and rushing force as Rabun County bested Greene County. Woerner's favorite target this week was Devin Horner, who caught 5 passes for 55 yards.

Jeremiah Brown was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Wildcats bested the Tigers. He nabbed 1 interception, forced 1 fumble, recorded 1 fumble and racked up 1 sack.

Woerner was a force in the backfield as Rabun County topped Greene County.

He was 17-29 with 1 interception.

Union County's Joseph Mancuso and Jacob Rogers have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mancuso has thrown for 2,108 yards this season, while Rogers has 51 catches for 906 yards. Woerner from Lee Shaw's team leads the league in rushing with 699 yards.

The Panthers' Rogers is only 94 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the the Dragons. So far this year, he has acheived 51 catches for 906 yards.

An important game coming up in AA Region 8 this week will be when Jefferson takes on Union County. At the moment, Ben Hall's team is in third, while Cullen Robertson's team is in fourth.
