Baseball Recap: Lee County Comes Up Short

Lee County extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-20. They fell 4-1 to the Harnett Central Trojans. That's two games in a row now that the Yellow Jackets have lost by exactly three runs.

Lee County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alston Beal, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Harnett Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On Harnett Central's side, Rylan Wester was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Wester a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonah Swinson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee County will face off against Green Level at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Harnett Central, they will take on Southern Lee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
