Softball Recap: Dora Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mountain Grove

Dora extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They came up short against the Mountain Grove Panthers, falling 19-9. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Falcons' highest-scoring match to date.

As for Mountain Grove, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5. Considering they have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Mountain Grove's part, Hannah Dowden tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Dowden has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lyla Golden was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophee Peterson, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dora will venture away from home to face off against Winona at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mountain Grove, they will take on Fair Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
