Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Piles Up the Points Against Andrada Polytechnic

St. Augustine Catholic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 73-35 victory over the Andrada Polytechnic Mavericks. That's more bragging rights for the Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jovanni Fernandez had a dynamite game, shooting 48% from the field en route to 31 points. Those 31 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carlos Acuna, who posted 18 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

St. Augustine Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They racked up six more assists than Andrada Polytechnic's also-impressive total of 11.

When it comes to explaining why Andrada Polytechnic lost, don't look at Chasen Lewellyn. Despite the final result, he put up six points and 15 rebounds. Santiago Ronquillo was another key player, putting up four points and ten boards.

Andrada Polytechnic is on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, St. Augustine Catholic will take on St. David in a tournament on Thursday. As for Andrada Polytechnic, they will be taking part in a tournament against Patagonia at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
