The Lafayette Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Highland Baptist Christian Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Lafayette's last matchup with Loreauville could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Lions lost 11-5 to the Tigers. The Lions have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Haylan Chapman and Kaylee Morgan did some serious damage despite the final result: Chapman went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Morgan scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Morgan is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Heidi Ewing also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bears on Thursday. Highland Baptist Christian put the hurt on Gueydan with a sharp 14-8 victory. The result was nothing new for Highland Baptist Christian, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Sara Romero made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Chloe Delahoussaye was a standout: she went 1-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Addisen Yates was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Highland Baptist Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Highland Baptist Christian and bumps their season record up to 6-13. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lafayette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .510. However, it's not like Highland Baptist Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lafayette took their win against Highland Baptist Christian in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 19-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
