Basketball Recap: Hoboken's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Monday

On Monday, the Hoboken Redwings were able to grind out a solid win over the Newark Central Blue Devils, taking the game 72-61. Given the Redwings' advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 359th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Newark Central still got an impressive performance from Drean Aikins, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. What's more, Aikins also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Tensy Oghenebiko also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Hoboken's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Newark Central, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoboken has already played their next contest (against North Bergen), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Newark Central will head out on the road to face off against West Side at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
