Basketball Recap: Ashlie Needler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southern Wells over Jay County

Southern Wells has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The matchup between them and the Jay County Patriots didn't end well, with the Southern Wells Raiders falling 52-34. The Raiders were probably out for revenge after losing 70-34 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Southern Wells' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlie Needler, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Paxson, who posted four points.

Among those leading the charge was Natalie Carreno, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 10 points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in rebounds. Hallie Schwieterman was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Southern Wells' loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Jay County, their record is now 9-11.

Southern Wells wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-35 defeat against Southwood on the 28th. Jay County has also already played their next game, a 57-29 victory against Heritage on the 28th.
