Basketball Game Preview: Montwood Rams vs. Frenship Tigers

Montwood hasn't had much luck against Frenship recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Montwood Rams will be playing at home against the Frenship Tigers at 3:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Montwood took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 55-17 win over Socorro. That 38 point margin sets a new team best for the Rams this season.

Montwood relied on the efforts of Jazlynn Hernandez, who went 8 of 13 en route to 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Mia Hairston, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points and three steals. The matchup was Hairston's third in a row with at least ten points. Jocelynn Custard was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Montwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Frenship came tearing into Tuesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 78-26 victory over the Rebels. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 20 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Frenship has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 28-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for Montwood, their win bumped their record up to 20-10.
