Greensboro Day enters the season at No. 18 nationally.

Head coach Freddy Johnson of Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.) earned the 1,000th win of his career Saturday night.

The Bengals beat Vance (Charlotte) 59-28 at the Bobby Martin Classic to help the 63-year-old reach the historic win plateau.

Johnson became the 20th coach in high school basketball history with 1,000 wins (against 283 losses). He has led Greensboro Day to nine NCISAA state titles in his 41 years on the bench. Fifty-seven of his former players have gone on to play at the college level.

Greensboro Day checked in at No. 18 in MaxPreps.com's preseason national rankings and have looked the part so far, going 8-0.
