League recap: UMS-Wright Prep tops Andalusia to extend winning streak

UMS-Wright Prep added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating Andalusia, 29-8. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Thomasville took down Monroe County 48-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

UMS-Wright Prep's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gunner Roach threw for 166 and 2 touchdowns and Jaylon Jones had 106 yards receiving. On the ground Troy Dixon chipped in 188 yards. Chauncey Callier helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 38 yards.

Roach put up the best numbers in passing as Terry Curtis' team bested the Bulldogs. Roach's favorite target this week was Jones, who caught 8 passes for 106 yards.

UMS-Wright Prep's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roach has thrown for 1,445 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Jones has 43 catches for 832 yards.

The Bulldogs are currently in first, while Wilcox Central is in fifth.

Hillcrest led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Escambia County.
