Basketball Recap: Tonopah Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Trinity Blackburn and Alyssa Mauer

Tonopah has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 29.9 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 61-38 to the Round Mountain Knights. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Muckers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-26 back in January.

Alyssa Mauer and Trinity Blackburn certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Mauer went 6 for 15 on her way to 18 points and seven boards, while Blackburn almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Blackburn is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played.

Leading Round Mountain to victory were Layla Faga and Ava Faga. Layla dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Ava dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. What's more, Layla also racked up four blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Laycii Thibodeaux was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Tonopah has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Round Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Tonopah will face off against Beatty at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Tonopah is facing Beatty at the right time seeing as Beatty is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Round Mountain, they will challenge Indian Springs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Indian Springs will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Round Mountain surely won't give up without a fight.
