Baseball Recap: Point Loma's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Point Loma hadn't done well against Eastlake recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Point Loma sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over Eastlake. This was payback for the Pointers, who suffered a 7-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Marviel Underwood looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Reddeg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Waterman, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

The victory (which was Point Loma's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Eastlake, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Coming up, Point Loma will head out to square off against Granite Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Point Loma 1.5, Granite Hills 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Eastlake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Patrick Henry at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Eastlake has won ten straight at home dating back to last season, while Patrick Henry won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
