Baseball Recap: Centennial Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After losing to Independence the last time they met, Centennial decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-4. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Eagles on their field since April 23, 2024.

Eli Wells made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). He is becoming a predictor of Centennial's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-15 when he doesn't). Wells was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

Wells wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Shepler, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits Shepler has posted over his last 12 contests.

Centennial's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16. As for Independence, their record is now 17-9.

Looking ahead, Centennial will face off against Overton at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Independence, they will head out to square off against Siegel at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
